About the Photographer
My name is Naomi Mallory, and for me, photography is more than a hobby, it’s a passion. In 2012, I completed my Bachelor of New Media Arts at James Cook University in Townsville, majoring in photography. My passion for photography goes back further than I can remember; back before it was ever even recognised as a passion. Although, ask any of my friends, and they will tell you I was always the one following everybody else around with a camera.
Being recently married myself, I got to experience what it’s like on the other side of the lens for a change, and just let me say it was a good learning experience. I definitely now have a much better understanding of a client’s expectations, and the pressures that they are under, especially when planning a wedding. Not only that, but you can see how much the experience changed me as a photographer – looking at my photography pre-July 2011 and afterwards, I think there is quite a distinct difference.
It’s strange that before I started studying photography at university, my interest lay primarily in landscapes and more high-art photography. However, once I started working with and photographing people, I discovered my true passion. I love capturing those magical moments and raw emotions more than anything else.
I also have a particular affinity in working with young children – I think that although often a lot of patience is required, capturing that split second moment of their cheeky grin or inquisitive glance is just so rewarding and worth the effort.
